Park Royal Announces Plans for Major Community Festival to Coincide with 2010 Games
West Vancouver, BC; July 16, 2009 – Park Royal has announced plans to hold a major community festival in February 2010 that will coincide with the 2010 games. The festival, Park Royal Winter Carnival, will feature an exciting line-up of winter related family activities.
“The purpose of the festival is to create a gathering place where residents and visitors can come together,” says Rick Amantea, Vice President, Park Royal Shopping Centre. “We are extremely excited to be able to present this once in a lifetime experience to members of our community.”
Event organizers are currently looking at three major areas of activity. The first area will consist of an entertainment stage with beverage tent. The second will be an ice skating canal that will run through The Village at Park Royal. The third will include executing the Guinness World Book of Records longest running Community Hockey Game. The ice rink for this event will be situated in one of the parking lots on the South side of Park Royal. In addition, large LCD screens are also planned to be put up at Park Royal and will broadcast various events.
“Park Royal Shopping Centre is more than an outstanding shopping centre, it is a major destination and gathering place for residents and visitors alike, and we expect that these exciting events will be great for the North Shore,” says Doug Smith, Chair, Spirit of BC, North Shore. “The Spirit of BC, North Shore committee’s goal is to help ignite pride and community spirit in those living and working on the North Shore in the build up to the 2010 Games. We want to give the community an experience to remember. For this reason we are thrilled to support these exciting initiatives announced by Park Royal.”
Park Royal Winter Carnival will provide the community with a celebration ground that is central for all residents of the North Shore. The festival will make the experience accessible to more than just those who hold tickets to the games. It will also provide the opportunity for businesses within the community to get involved.
Further event details will be released publicly as they are finalized over the next few months.
