Connectivity and safety are essential elements of Park Royal upgrades
WEST VANCOUVER, B.C. – With the Holidays now over, momentum has picked up again with the Park Royal South improvements. Customers will notice a few changes on the Park Royal property in the coming weeks and months – all of which are essential for better connectivity and safety.
“We have had great success so far with the opening of the approved intersection in mid-November 2012,” said Rick Amantea, Vice President of Park Royal. “The community is now familiar with this change in traffic movement and we are anxious to bring the project to 100 per cent completion.”
Effective immediately, customers will notice the removal of one of the access ramps, which runs east/west just south of the transit stops on Park Royal South, and the closure of the surrounding parking area. This access ramp and parking removal is necessary to allow for development to continue on the buildings that will accommodate a new collection of retailers, which will be unique to the North Shore. Additional parking and new access ramps are incorporated in the design of the new expanded parkade, which will be completed and available for use in late spring 2013.
In early February, upgrades will be made to the existing vehicle overpass, which connects Park Royal North and South. This will allow traffic to have a smoother and safer transition as it moves between Park
Royal North and South. To allow for these upgrades, the vehicle overpass will be temporarily closed to traffic for approximately five weeks, from early February to mid-March. Traffic will be re-routed while this temporary closure takes place and customers will still have access to both sides of Park Royal via the new Marine Drive intersection and Taylor Way.
“Although this is a short term change, it is nonetheless a material detour for traffic moving through Park Royal,” added Rick Amantea. “Our primary concern is the safety of our guests and employees, and we
are going to do our very best to limit this disruption to the shortest time period possible.”
The expanded parkade will re-open in late spring 2013 and the first phase of new retailers is slated to open in the fall of 2013. Approximately 20 new retailers will join the existing 280 stores and services that
currently call Park Royal and The Village at Park Royal home.
