Holiday Gift Guide for the Kids

By Gretchen Martin

I’m already envisioning it; it’s Christmas morning and I’m sitting in the living room with my husband, our boys and their grandparents. The excitement is palpable between the crisp fragrance of the tree, the fire crackling, Christmas carols playing softly in the background and the boys running about in their matching reindeer jammies.  Not to mention the eggnog in my coffee! We are about to open gifts and see what Santa has brought the boys and it is quite possibly my favourite moment of the entire year.

Of course, the Holidays are a magical time for the kids, but there is still a great deal of magic to be had for us parents too. I absolutely love this time of year and am always looking for ways to make the Season more enjoyable.

Fortunately for us, Park Royal is brimming with incredible gifts for kids and will have you ticking all the names off your Christmas list in just one visit! Need a little inspiration? I’m sharing my favourite finds below for both boys and girls; from stocking stuffers to bigger gifts that will have them jumping for joy!

For the Little Explorer:

Boots! (Blundstones, Hunters or Emus, that is) – $69.99-$129.99

Whether they’re a lover of puddles, walking on mountain paths or enjoy a little more fashion in their step (hello glow-in-the-dark stars!), Chic Angels has the perfect boots to keep them wild and warm. Hunter boots have been the boot of choice in our home for a long time, and for those who can’t get enough Peppa Pig, Chic Angels has some darling Peppa Hunter boots in stock ($69.99)! My personal choice are the Blundstones ($119.99) as they are durable for play in the mountains, and just a great winter-time shoe for boys. However, if I had a girl on my list I would definitely be buying the Emu Australia Glow-in-the Dark Starry Night boots for girls ($129.99)!

For the “Mini-Me”:

Matching HBC Toques + Blankets – $18.00-$149.00

Equal parts nostalgia and cozy, the Hudson’s Bay Company iconic brand has the perfect gift for your little one who loves to twin with mom or dad. Matching toques are an excellent choice ranging from $18 for baby to $45 for adult size. And if you really want to layer on the ‘cozy’ this winter, opt for the deliciously soft Fuzzy Throw ($149), they even have a beautiful Multi Stripe Baby Blanket ($60) for your mini.

For the Budding Beauty:

Benefit cosmetics tin – $40 ($90 Value)

A perfect gift for the teen who loves all things beauty. This set from Benefit cosmetics is a steal of a deal at $40.00 with a retail value of $90.00! The set includes Benefit’s bestselling Gimme Brow brow gel, Roller Lash curling mascara and award-winning Hoola matte bronzing powder perfectly packaged in an adorable reusable camper tin. Find it in Shoppers’ Beauty Boutique or Sephora

For the Sports Fan:

Hat – $24.00-$35.99

For the one who loves to support their team, you can’t go wrong with a hat from Lids. Lids has the best selection of hats including adjustable, fitted, knit and flex. But be careful, you might just be leaving with one for yourself too!

For the Music Lover:

Wireless Headphones – $84.98-$399.00

For your teen or pre-teen (or pre-teen at heart) who appreciates both the cool kid vibe as much as the actual music, wireless headphones will be a total hit! Best Buy has plenty of amazing options starting at $84.98 from Skullcandy all the way up to the very slick Beats by Dr Dre headphones for $399.00.

For Anyone on Your List:

Books $9.99+

Books are always a great choice for kids whether they are 10 months or 10 years old. Indigo is a one-stop for every book you could dream of! I fell in love with the holiday classic A Charlie Brown Christmas that I picked up as a Christmas Eve gift for the boys and also love the darling board books by Helanie Becker highlighting Canadian heritage; A Porcupine in a Pine Tree, Dashing Through The Snow and Deck the Halls ($9.99/each). You can’t go wrong with my all-time favourite children’s book The Very Cranky Bear!

Hatley

I’m such a sucker for kids in matching jammies, especially at Christmas! Hatley has the best selection of good quality and festive Holiday pajamas ($39), perfect for the siblings or even all the cousins! A great gift for opening on Christmas Eve. And Hatley has way more than only pajamas; I found an adorable Ski Bum Baby Romper ($34) for my little guy at Hatley and also love their umbrellas for toddler gifts ($22)!

Hudson’s Bay

Hudson’s Bay has some great gifts right now, and you can do no gift-giving wrong for children 12 and under in their FAO Schwarz section. I absolutely love the chic packaging and nostalgia in this exclusive section, and bonus that everything is packaged in easy to wrap boxes!

My top FAO Schwarz picks:

15-piece Wooden Nativity Scene ($49.99)

Baby Mix & Match 3-Piece Outfit Set ($59.99)

Classic Motorized Train Set ($129.99)

Piano Dance Mat ($99.00-$149.99)

Indigo

Indigo, I could spend my entire day here! And there is no shortage of great gifts to choose from for the kids. As mentioned above, books are an excellent choice, but Indigo Kids has tons of other great gifts to choose from as well.

My top (non-book) Indigo picks:

Baby Cabin Robe ($24)

Jellycat stuffies ($19.50 – $125)

Snow Globe ($29.50)

Unicorn Backpack ($29.95) or Caticorn Crossbody ($26.95)

Stocking Stuffers:

Lindt has a whole army of stocking stuffer potential, but I especially love their darling chocolate Teddy Train. Miniso is another great stop for stocking stuffer finds; if your kid is currently into Marvel then you’re in luck as there is plenty of Marvel merchandise. I found their wooden baby toys (6.99) to be the perfect stocking stuffer for my youngest and their Lamborghini race cars ($16.99) to be perfect for my 3-year-old.

Finding the perfect gift is no small task, and there is no better place than Park Royal for the undertaking. My best advice involves a festive latte from Delaney’s to get you in the spirit and a celebratory lunch at Eve Café in Simons to finish (maybe even reflexology for those tired feet if you can spare the time!).

Enjoy your visit and this special Holiday Season with your family and loved ones!

xo.
